The National Safety Council’s Defensive Driving Course offers state-of-the-art animations, curriculum, and provides an engaging interactive experience. This course is good for those looking to satisfy a traffic citation, reduce points, or improve their driving skills.
Our online defensive driving course is designed and written with the assistance of a select group of devoted highway traffic safety trainers and specialists.
We provide the best Driver Improvement Program in Florida. Approved by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) for Point Reduction and Basic Driver Improvement (BDI).
Upon successful completion of the Florida defensive driving course online, an official Certificate of Completion from the National Safety Council will be available to print immediately. Please sign and submit to the clerk of the court or other authority per your individual directions. In Florida students generally take the Florida BDI for four purposes and submit to the court, the county where the citation was received, the DHSMV or the Insurance Provider.
BDI—TCAC, Traffic Collision Avoidance Course:
Submit to Court or DHSMV.
BDI—Elected, Point Reduction:
Submit to Court.
BDI—Court Ordered:
Submit to Court.
BDI—Insurance Reduction:
Check eligibility and provide copy to Insurance Provider.
In cases of TCAC or Point Reduction the completion information will be submitted automatically to the Florida DHSMV. The student should determine the court or authority and the preferred manner in which your completion is to be reported and respond within the designated timeframe.
Ask your insurance carrier if it provides an insurance reduction based on completion of this course.
In some cases, motorists may choose to attend a BDI course to receive insurance reduction. This discount is solely at the discretion of the insurance carrier.
Florida motorists who receive a ticket for a non-criminal moving violation, and who do not hold a commercial driver license, may elect to attend the four-hour BDI program to avoid points from being added to their driving record.
All online defensive driving courses approved by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) are required to be no less than 4 hours. This course fulfills that requirement. Our course is fully narrated, providing an easier user-experience than other courses that require reading through content or which charge an additional fee for narration.
You may take the course in increments at your leisure, with a convenient built-in bookmark feature that allows you to return where you left off. Please note the course must be completed within 30 days.
Please note, it takes approximately 48 hours for your completion to be annotated on the driver record by DHSMV once it is reported by National Safety Council.
